The evenly measured sweet and edgy singer-songwriter-guitarist Katie Garibaldi’s new release Next Ride Out is the artist’s sixth full-length album, and marks a new chapter in the creative indie music starling’s career.  Next Ride Out features ten original soul-satisfying tracks, comprised of five brand new songs and five previously recorded songs that are smacked up with fresh arrangements and performances.  The ten tracks mainly focus on relationships, love, and pain, as the songwriter is best known for, but the songs also carry a bit more humor, vulnerability, and self-discovery than her past work has shown.  Maturity, both musically and emotionally, is evident, and the artist gives us more heart and guts than ever before.  The sound is reminiscent of Americana with a twist of sparkling pop.  Sweet and spicy, and full of heart. Michael Molenda, a noted producer, engineer, and editor-in-chief of Guitar Player magazine, produced the album at Tiki Town in Mill Valley, Ca.  The studio has been home to many major label artists, as well as U.S. and European indie artists.

Fallen Angel
(2006)

Katie Garibaldi’s latest release, Fallen Angel, is the artist’s fifth full-length album. Although the name “Fallen Angel” may have a dark connotation, the album is in fact a bright collection of 14 original songs and carries an ongoing theme of unconditional love.  Katie explores feelings of devotion and freedom in a relationship with straight-to-the-heart lyrics and winning melodies.

Fallen Angel differs from Katie’s previous albums, still containing well-written and thoughtful lyrics and technique, but noticeably showing the artist’s evolvement in songwriting and musical development.  The sound is distinctively acoustic, with a rockabilly-pop flavor, well represented in each song.  The album features Katie with her trio and also stays true to Katie as a solo artist, providing the listener with two ‘bandless’ tracks—one of which Katie plays keyboard on.  Fallen Angel is full of lovely dynamics, taking the listener on a ride from surprising bridges, to unpredictable pauses in songs, to brushes on the drums.  Even Katie’s soulful voice is dynamic—from delightful wispy tones to soaring vibrato.

Fallen Angel is sure to gain quite a buzz with such songs as “Always, Every Time” (an uplifting song about escaping to a better place), “A Love Without Chains” (a funky and rocky tune about feeling free with a new love), and the title track, “Fallen Angel,” (featuring Katie’s acoustic finger-picking technique and slide guitar).

Fireflies
(2004)

Fireflies is a collection of songs that bring listeners deeper into insightful reflections on love and relationships. The CD is almost a mini-roller coaster, delivering experiences and messages that touch on real emotions of a typically curvy ride of any relationship. Offering an escape to listeners, the album provides a promising mixture of quiet relaxation and upbeat rejuvenation. This mixture is impressively diverse, and all the while stays true to Katie's rooted sound.

The title track of the CD,"Fireflies," is a graceful and mellow piece that takes the mind to another place. The reverberation of the bittersweet vide beautifully accompanies the vivid imagery Katie paints in the story of the song. A more up-tempo track, "When I'm With You," instantly pops out at the listener, sounding out an ultra-slick guitar arrangement. Other tracks like "We Gave it Our Best," showcase Katie's distinct soulful and rich vocals which swell with emotion. One of her best solo tracks, "For Anything More" resonates a haunting cry and sincerity, with a spotlight on the artist's guitar picking and heart-tugging lyrics.

The album, comprised of 16 songs, hits home, conveying Katie's sweet approach delivered together with a mature and intelligent poetic poise. Fireflies is a gentle and confident piece of accomplishment that a wide variety of listeners can enjoy.
